Radish microgreens are the speed champions of the microgreen world! Known for their incredible growth rate and a spicy, peppery kick that matches the mature root vegetable, they are the perfect choice for growers who want quick results and intense flavor.

Here is your lightning-fast guide to growing a Farmer You Kitchen Kit of Radish microgreens.

Step 1: Prep & Sow

Seed Weight per Kitchen Kit

Needs Pre-Soak?

No

Optimal Germination Temp

70-80 degrees F

  1. Prepare the Tray: Place an 8x8 germination pad in the kitchen kit tray and fully saturate the pad, draining off excess water.

  2. Sow the Seeds: Radish seeds are robust and do not require pre-soaking. Evenly broadcast 10 grams of dry seeds across the surface of the medium.

  3. Mist: Give the tray a light misting with water to ensure good seed-to-pad contact.

Step 2: Blackout & Weighting (Move FAST!)

Blackout and weighting is not a necessary step with the Farmer You Kitchen Kit, but it can lead to increased productivity. If you wish to forgo the blackout and weighting, simply place the germination cover over your tray until the seeds have sprouted.

Notes on Germination

Extremely fast; can germinate in less than 24 hours.

  1. Apply Weight (Day 1): Place a second tray (or some other flat waterproof object) directly on top of the seeds. Place a weight (5 lbs) on the top tray for just 1 day. Radish germinates incredibly fast, often in under 24 hours, so they need minimal time under pressure.

  2. Blackout: Keep the tray in the dark (blackout) for a maximum of 1–2 days total. You must monitor them closely! As soon as the majority of seeds have sprouted and the roots are established, move immediately to the light.

Step 3: Grow & Water

Other Tips

Monitor closely to avoid leggy growth.

  1. Introduce Light: As soon as you see the seedlings pushing up the blackout cover, move them directly under bright grow lights or into a sunny spot. Radish can get "leggy" (tall, thin, and weak) if they spend too long searching for light.

  2. Watering: Switch to bottom watering for the remaining growth cycle. Add water along the edges of the grow tray and allow the pad to wick it into the center. This keeps the foliage dry, which minimizes the risk of mold.

  3. Airflow: Good air circulation is always beneficial to promote strong growth and prevent moisture-related issues.

Step 4: Harvest

Radish

Days Until Harvest

5–8

Other Tips

Fastest microgreen.

  1. Timing: Your Radish microgreens will be ready in an astonishing 5–8 days! This is one of the fastest crops you can grow.

  2. Look for Cotyledons: Harvest when the cotyledons (the first pair of small, oval leaves) are fully developed and vibrant green.

  3. Cut: Using a sharp knife or clean scissors, harvest the microgreens by cutting just above the root level.

  4. With the MagniMoist pad, harvesting is a breeze! Simply hold the pad vertically above a bowl and allow the greens to fall into the bowl as you cut along the stems.

Enjoy the satisfying speed and bold flavor of your Radish microgreens!
